On October 14, 2016, RAF conducted a graduate-level seminar for Florida International University’ Civil Engineering Department on the subject of ‘Resilience in the Built Environment: Challenges and Issues’.

The seminar covered the topics of the Sendai Framework for DRR, the relation between resilience, green, climate and sustainability, the issues and root causes of vulnerability in the built environment and finally specific concerns related to Florida, particularly after the near-miss disaster of Hurricane Matthew.

RAF was selected as one of eight expert organizations to deliver three educational webinars on the 2030 Global Development Agenda. This agenda consisted of the UN Sustainable Development Goals, the Paris Climate Agreement and the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction. These webinars launch an online dialogue amongst several hundred academic and policy participants with an aim of creating programs and materials for the advancement of learning in higher education.

RAF is honored to have been selected by SCC and looks forward to contributing its practical knowledge and insights regarding built environment resilience and linking this to the greater topic of sustainability.
